Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
